Great post! I am trying to embed a custom font in my navigation application(SL3). Any idea why it won't work within this framework? Even when I create a new project using the application framework template and just change the fonts, it won't work. It works beautifully using the same font/method in other non-application framework apps.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I agree - Silverlight is awesome but needs text rendering at least as good as Flash. Flash developed by design orientated company = awesome text rendering... Silverlight developed by academics = awesome tool but they don't get the need for beautiful/perfect apps?

Agreed George - Silverlight has a long way to go to catch up with Flash text rendering. I think the Silverlight team is mostly developers, which is why the technology is cool but the designer aspects e.g. typography leave a lot of room for improvement.

Mason: rendering itself is even indeed far from working as decent as it should and Silverlight 4 didn't seem to improve this engine. Who knows... maybe Silverlight 5?

Too bad Silverlight's font engine still doesn't support kerning, negative-line heights, or good anti-aliasing. Until Microsoft fixes that stuff I'm not interested in using streamed fonts.
