Visiblox Charts and Windows 8 - Some News!

Many of you have asked if we're planning on releasing Visiblox Charts for WinRT.  Well of course we would be remiss if we didn't, like the rest of the WPF/Silverlight ecosystem, at least investigate WinRT as an option.  Clearly, the only real way to investigate WinRT in the context of Visiblox Charts is to port the component itself.  So that's what we did.

I should make clear, we're not quite at the stage of a finished product yet but I thought it would be good to share some of the initial work with you guys to satisfy your curiosity.

As has been pointed out by many people many times, while the C#/XAML of WinRT does bear remarkable resemblance to the Silverlight/WPF structures and APIs, it is not identical and the transition from one to the other is not quite as seamless as one might anticipate.  Nevertheless, most of the APIs are the same or have equivalent counterparts so it's a whole lot easier than starting from scratch, that's for sure.

"Enough of the blathering", you say, so let's get on with it and show you some of the results:

I'm afraid I don't have an exact release date for you on when this might be available to our users but what I can say is that the more interest we get, the higher it goes on our to-do list so be sure to let us know if you're in need of a WinRT version of Visiblox Charts!

We're also planning on posting some of our experiences in doing the port because that could be very interesting information for you.  Do let us know if that's something you'd be interested in reading about and we'll be sure to follow up with more information.

Looks very awesome. Will you be including this for users who have already purchased your 'all platforms' bundle & support?

Hi Jim,

Glad you like it - we're pretty excited about it!

We haven't finalised the commercials yet but I would expect we will just be adding it to the All Platforms bundle and making it available as a separate platform as well, much like Silverlight or WPF. We'll definitely have more news in the coming weeks. Right now everyone is focused on getting 3.0 WPF/Silverlight/WP7 out of the door in the next couple weeks, but then we'll start working on getting a public trial/beta of the Windows 8 out to people to play with, so watch this space on that front.
